Watch Out For the UPS Virus!

I've seen this a few times now so I felt it was worth posting. There is an e-mail going around right now that is supposedly from UPS. The message contains the following text:

Dear customer!

Unfortunately we were not able to deliver your postal package which was sent on the 1st of December in time because the addressee's address is not correct. Please print out the invoice copy attached and collect the package at our office.

United Parcel Service of America.

This e-mail will come with a .zip file attachment which is infected with a fake alert like Antivirus 2010. DO NOT OPEN!!!
 

Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools

 Found this cool little guy on my quest to delete an insane directory structure nightmare. They had a low quality backup solution that everytime it ran, it put the latest backup another folder within the previous backup. Confusing, I know. And since the folders were buried so deep within itself, it took a special toolkit to delete the troublesome folders using robocopy.exe.

Cool Support Icon Registry Hack

So being a PC support company, I've always been jealous of that Dell Support icon in your Start Menu. It's the first place users can turn to if they need help. We strive to be as accessible to our customers as possible, so of course this is super useful to us.

So far I've only tested it with Windows XP Professional SP3. I'll test it on Windows Vista and Windows 7 tomorrow. I'll update this post when I do with the results.

 I always wondered how to do this but I never seemed to be able to find anything on Google regarding dynamic drop down menus. Then out of nowhere while researching an entirely different topic, I stumbled upon the answer! Always fun to find the answer to a long pondered topic at random!
 

PHP Mobile Device Detection Script

 So in the pursuit of developing the mobile-friendly version of the the site, I discovered this little gem. If you read into it, mobile browser detection is usually accomplished by custom packages installed on the webhost's server. This can be server intensive and require admin privileges in order to install said packages, so this is a good alternative.

 Welcome to the new lakecs.net! This page will serve as my Knowledge base (KB) until the full system is in place. Check back for updates to the site.
